Funding Formulae

Our team has significant statistical and modelling expertise, including detailed knowledge and analysis of demographic, socio-economic, health and education datasets. We specialise in all aspects of local government funding, including the funding formulae used in the finance settlement, specific grants and resource forecasting. We have also reviewed and developed new funding formulae at both national and local level.

Examples of such work include:

• In-depth analysis and identification of the implications of the annual local government finance settlement for over 140 authorities
• Producing briefings, council tax and funding forecasts based upon government policy and funding announcements
• Establishing a financial case where authorities are potentially under-resourced, developing lobbying strategies and presenting findings to key decision makers to secure additional funding
• Investigating the robustness of ONS population data
• Providing detailed and constructive critiques of government funding initiatives
• Developing a specific formula grant for the national funding of Diplomas
